History

RDA Blue Mountains was accredited in 1991 and has been providing equestrian activities ever since. The Centre is situated in Blaxland at the beginning of the Blue Mountains on 5 acres of bushland. There is a riding arena and some bush trails. There are also BBQ facilities and many groups enjoy having their morning tea and lunch at the Centre.

We have six horses and provide sessions for groups from various programs as far a field as Seven Hills and Blackheath. Our riders have the opportunity of competing in Mounted Games with other RDA Centres and eventually going to the Royal Easter Show with some of our horses. One of our horses was awarded RDA NSW Horse of the Year for 2005.

The Centre has always been run with volunteers and community donations. There is a roster of feeders who look after the horses and a special group of young people who come on Saturdays to assist with the riders. The volunteers do not necessarily have experience with horses or people with disabilities as we always give training; just a love of animals and people is needed.
