History
The Riding for the Disabled Assoc. NSW Tamworth Centre is situated on the corner of
Marius Street and Manilla Road and has been in operation for over 30 years at 3 different locations before finally settling at our present site where we have been for the last 15 years.
Our 12 faithful horses are kept on the grounds and are cared for by volunteers.
Our centre operates on Thursdays during school terms operated by a various number of volunteers assisted by the generosity of two Tamworth High schools.
Our clients are aged from three years up to adults in their forties. They all have very
different special needs with the majority of them having a horse ride whilst some of
the adults grooming horses. We also have a cart and sulky and sometimes harness
rides.
The Centre has a sand arena approx. 24 x 9 metres. Some of our clients are given individual lessons in the arena and are progressing well. The horse riders do various activities when appropriate including musical activities.
There is a building called The Lodge where on Thursdays mornings morning tea and lunch is provided by our wonderful catering ladies. The monthly meeting is also held at the lodge.
There are three accredited coaches and three whips (harness) who supervise all these activities at the Centre.
The Tamworth Centre is enjoyed by 80 riders, 30 volunteers and 20 High School students.
