History

On 7 March 1979 a meeting was held at Biala Special School to form a Ballina branch of Riding for the Disabled Association (NSW). On 7 June 1979 the first riding lesson was held at Boulder Beach Riding Ranch with instruction by Mr Bob Wylie. In 1980 the branch moved to the Johnston’s property at North Teven. This venue was named The Mitchell Centre in loving memory of Mitch Mitchell a friend to many at RDA. With the wonderful assistance and enthusiasm of many volunteers this Centre offered and continues to offer the equine and equestrian experience to people with disabilities.
